Try blacklisting nouveau in /etc/modprobe.d/nouveau-blacklist (create this file with sudo rights)
And type in
blacklist nouveau
After that rebuild initrd with
sudo update-initramfs -u
and reboot
That should make it work again

OS: Lubuntu 12.10 (Quantal) 32-bit
Hi,
I installed the packages:
nvidia-graphics-drivers, nvidia-settings, and libva1, from X Updates
PPA (because stock NVIDIA drivers are too old).
They work OK, however TTYs appear black, when I switch to them with
Ctrl-Alt-F1, F2, etc.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
Thank you,
