Is there a way to get scrot to capture the mouse cursor?

This shows the application name, but many packages contain several
applications. If you use Synaptic (similar to what you descibed in your
previous mail) you should find what package it is.

Sometimes there is information about it at the end of the man page. See
for example at the end of

man tune2fs

that it is part of the e2fsprogs package.
