I have a Lubuntu 12.10 system where, for some reason, a user can't run
nm-tool:-
chris at revo:/etc/dbus-1/system.d$ nm-tool
** (process:1618): WARNING **: Could not initialize NMClient /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager: Rejected send message, 2 matched rules; type="method_call", sender=":1.16" (uid=1000 pid=1618 comm="nm-tool ") interface="org.freedesktop.DBus.Properties" member="GetAll" error name="(unset)" requested_reply="0" destination="org.freedesktop.NetworkManager" (uid=0 pid=945 comm="NetworkManager ")
NetworkManager Tool
State: unknown
** (process:1618): WARNING **: error: could not connect to NetworkManager
However it works fine when run as the root user.
A further symptom of the same thing (I think) is that the Network Manager applet is
non-functional, the icon is there on the panel but it just tells me "Network Manager
is not running...". However Network Manager is running and I do have an internet
connection.
