Yes. I installed Samba gui on Lubuntu:
sudo apt-get install samba smbclient samba-common system-config-samba
...and installed Solid Explorer on my SIII and made the connection. I
presume that it's possible on the opposite direction (with a samba server
on Android).
Remember that Google Removed MTP support on new kernels and Linux support
of MTP mounting is a crap. Also using AirDroid does not some the problem
because it cuts some file transmissions.
