Hi all,
If you or anyone is really interested in permanently destroying
files or directories what y'all have been discussing on this thread will
*not* do the job. Period.
However, there are a couple of ways in which you *can* permanently
destroy files or directories.
First is too install bcrypt or ccrypt. I use bcrypt.
Then install wipe. I do not use shred.
I then place all files I want to destroy into a directory I named wipe.
I open up a terminal and then (do in this order):
a. Run bcrypt and encrypt all files contained within that directory.
Once completed then;
b. Run wipe (For example I use wipe -rcf /home/krp/wipe).
c. Go take a nap (the process shall take awhile).
Another method is installing ubuntu's Secure-delete package. I have
not tried yet but it does not only destroy files and directories but
also swap and memory. Very good idea.
I am a firm believer in renaming 'Trash' or 'Delete' to 'Recycle' and
'Undelete'.
Have a fine one all.
