Few questions

Hi again,

Indeed, one of the best things about Linux generally and Lubuntu
specifically, is having a supportive community that can help and support
you at anytime no matter where you are. We are glad to help and we like
what we do :)

sudo hdparm -Tt /dev/sda

Results will be something like this:

Timing cached reads: 7834 MB in 2.00 seconds = 3918.19 MB/sec
> Timing buffered disk reads: 364 MB in 3.00 seconds = 121.15 MB/sec
>

As for RPM:

I've been looking around for more than a hour now and couldn't find a
direct easy command to display that - sorry.

Menu > Accessories > Disk Utility

It might be helpful to check whether your HDD (with bad sectors) is healthy
or not?

Have you tried to format it the way I explained? create new partition
table, etc?
If that failed, I still have another way which is using the "dd" command to
write Zero on each and every sector on your HDD. One must be very careful
with this commend. I once posted on Ubuntu Forum and one of the Moderators
removed the post if I remember correctly.
Please keep in mind that we are trying every possible approach and it may
help and it may not so you need to understand that before trying anything :)
For me, I never give up and I always like to try fixing things but
sometimes, we need to know whether it is worth the time and effort or not?
if it is for learning, I do anything and everything :)

If your HDD is failing and dying, I believe the "dd" command will stop and
won't finish - it happened with me once on a failing HDD.

I'm not sure how to find out where exactly the bad sectors are? I guess
there is a way but I'm sorry, I have no time now to check that.

Sometimes, connecting the HDD on a separate Data Cable will make some
difference? or maybe that was for Master and Slave? this is from 10 years
back - heard it from someone - so not sure how valid and correct that is.

You can also check the HDD Temp. Disk Utility can show you that or you can
install "hddtemp".

I was wondering ... is your Windows System Faster than Lubuntu on the same
machine?
I'm talking about overall speed not something particular?!

Thanks!
