New music player proposal? I think the main problem concerns the media player rather than the audio player!!

Just a comment ... it is GNOME-Mplayer, rather than GNOME-Mediaplayer. :)

I don't know about the playlist thing in GNOME-Mplayer (I have experienced
it, but I don't know why it happens), but the other bugs can be attributed
to Mplayer and not precisely the frontend.

Certainly VLC works better "right out of the box", but it would be nice if
the Lubuntu Team (or specifically the artwork team) can help changing the
orange status icon of VLC and choose another one that integrates better
with the desktop.

I honestly don't know about other lightweight alternatives to GNOME-Mplayer
(and actually Mplayer in general), but certainly this needs to be
discussed.

And I agree that the audio player is fine. Maybe there are better ones, but
we have a good one, it is reliable and it plays basically every audio file.
However, it needs to be updated in the repos, I always have to get the
latest version from the Webupd8 PPA.
