LXPanel Vol control and ALSA mixer problem

what lubuntu & lxpanel versions? i'd like to compare against mine
because last time (on precise, not oneiric where it is greyed out) i
tried it worked fantastic.

p.s. for the curious, the reason i didn't ask about the volume control
applet version is because it's included in the lxpanel package as
/usr/lib/lxpanel/plugins/volumealsa.so
