In france we just spent 1450€ to burn 3000cds; ubuntu-uk planned to order some with us but the deadline was really to short. One of our projects for the oncoming release is to organise a "loco cd production", so that we would produce a lot of official CDs (x86, ubuntu, if we get a lot orders maybe some kubuntu too) so that we can get them at a very good price and then distribute them among participating locos. Price would be shared and be cheaper for everybody - you could then sell the cds for 1€ or something like that to get your money back.
