[loco-contacts] Report for past 6 months of Ubuntu Korean LoCo Team

Greetings! LoCo teams from worldwide.

My name is Youngbin Han, the current leader of Ubuntu Korea Community.
Our new council that manages and operates our community has been active
since last march. and we've done many various activities until today.
I'm glad to inform you our activities for past 6 months.

To summarize our activities that we've done so far,
- New council for Ubuntu Korea Community has been organized and actived.
- Held 2 regular seminars at May and July.
- Held 3 workshop events at April and August.
- Finished 2 group studies during Q2.
- Connected #ubuntu-ko IRC channel on freenode with #general channel on
ubuntu-kr slack.
- Updated rules for Korean translators team.

Here's the details of activities for each month:

# March

Organized new council members that will active until Feb, 2019. Members are
same as below.

# April

- Some members suggested connection of slack and irc. So we conducted a
survey for connecting both channels for about two month. We've gathered
opinions and suggestions from our community members via survey.
- Held IoT with RPi and Azure workshop event with OpenStack Korea User Group
 - 34 people people attended.
 - Attendees learned about IoT and how to collect data with Raspberry Pi
and Azure
- Held another workshop event with similar topic with OpenStack Korea User
Group.
- We've updated rules for our L10N team that lives on launchpad.
 - With new updated rule, every members of our l10n team will have a year
of approved period that can be renewed via that informs end of approval
period. So that team owner can keep track of active members.
 - Also, people who wants to join our L10N team must subscribe to
ubuntu-l10n-ko mailing list. This will make members to keep track of
important informations from the team.

# May

- Held a regular seminar at April 27th. Main topic was "contributing to
open source projects".
 - 30 people attended.
 - Taeung Song from KossLab talked about the process of linux kernel
contribution and his experience.
 - Minwook Shin who is a Wiki Provider of our council and also the current
owner of Korean L10N team talked about how to get started with translating
ubuntu using launchpad.
 - Ian. Y. Choi who is the leader of OpenStack Korea User Group introduced
use cases of launchpad in OpenStack projects

- DNS & Mail Server group study had been started.
 - Members had been met once a week. results in total 7 meetings.
 - They learned the basics of network by studying about DNS and Mail Server
building.

- Basic Mathematics group study had begun.
 - Members had been met once a week. results in total 8 meetings.
 - They solved mathematic problems by writing code in their prefered
programming language.

# June

- Finished the survey about slack and irc connection. According to the
result, we decided to connect our slack(#general of ubuntu-kr.slack.com)
and IRC(#ubuntu-ko at freenode).
 - We used slack-irc (https://github.com/ekmartin/slack-irc), Docker and
GCP's f1-micro VM instance(which is always free if you create one at US
regeions) to connect both channel.
 - A bot connected to both channel forwards messages between slack to irc.
 - talks of #general of ubuntu-kr slack is now also archived in
irclogs.ubuntu.com

# July

- Held a council meeting at Jun 15th to talk about l10n and packaging
workshop events. We decided to hold l10n workshop at August.
- Held a regular seminar at June 29th. Main topic was "Information Security
and IoT".
 - 32 people attended.
 - Homin Lee from KossLab talked about his experience about how he applied
Ubuntu Desktop on his maker activities.
 - Junho Kim from Dongkuk University talked about how he built his own IoT
project using MSP430
 - Yerang Lee from Ultraindex talked about basics of web hacking such as
SQL Injection.
 - Yong Choi reported the result of Basic Mathematics group study.
 - Suyoung Kim reported the result of DNS & Mail Server group study.

# August

- Held l10n workshop event at August 19th to encourage new comers to
participate and contribute to ubuntu localization.
 - 10 people attended.
 - Minwook Shin who is the current Korean l10n team owner, introduced and
helped attendees how to get started with ubuntu translation using
launchpad. From creating launchpad account and signing Ubuntu Code of
Conduct to joining Korean l10n team on launchpad.
 - very attendees successfully contributed to ubuntu Korean translation.
Also, most attendees ranked in the list of top contributors in Korean next
day.

- Held a council meeting at August 20th to talk about plans for activities
at non capital area. We will gonna promote activities at Daejeon first,
then we'll spread it to other area.
- Drake Song attended OSC 2017 Kyoto which was held at Kyoto, Japan as a
speaker. and he presented about how Hangul(Korean chracter) is processed in
computer and introduced about our community.

# September

- Held a regular seminar at September 16th with KRAZURE(Korea Azure User
Group). Main topic was "Cloud and Desktop at developer's perspective".
 - 50 people attended.
 - Sungki Park talked about What's new in Ubuntu on Windows 10
 - Sangkon Han talked about What's new in Ubuntu 17.10
 - Junghyeon Nam talked about his experience about .Net core in action
 - Youngbin Han talked about Snaps(Snappy) on Ubuntu Desktop
 - Tahee Jang talked about managing Azure with Azure CLI, Bash and Juju

That was our activities for past 6 months(from March to September)
Our plans for rest of this year are same as follows:

- A Seminar will be held at Daejeon City. With this event, we will start
promoting activities in non capital area so that people all around the
Korea can join.
- Regular seminar will be held at November 25th, We will talk about open
source license.
- Last regular seminar will be held at the end of this year.
- Packaging team will become active at the end of this year. First activity
of packaging team will be debian packaging workshop.
