I've been watching this thread for a few days now...

I manage the deviantArt Ubuntu community and a website more ridiculously
proprietary you're unlikely to find. But since there will be ubuntu
users a part of the great dA community it makes sense to have a place
where cross over can happen and where correct information and support
can be gathered and people can talk about their work.
If the plan is to make a brand new community, then I'd want it on FOSS,
for sure. But of course if we're talking about carving out an existing
set of users from an existing community then perhaps we don't need to be
so strict on the issue.
Of course these communities don't need to become official places for the
inner Ubuntu community to perform certain tasks. Then that's when it
starts to get a bit sticky. Officialness always is.
But this doesn't sound official, it just sounds interesting. If the
logic and design of the site is exciting then I'm sure someone in the
community will make a foss website out of it. Of course I hope not in
PHP ;-) I can't stand PHP for no particular reason.
Regards, Martin
