OK, with all the discussion around here about how to handle donations and
any type of income I am a bit confused. So are we not to include Ubuntu's
name in something if we set up a non-profit organization? Here is why I ask.
I anjoy getting old computers, getting them working and giving them to my
daughters school. After I started doing this I have received requests from
other schools for help in getting some computers. I don;t mind at all. So
after I realized the demand was out there I approached a couple of larger
companies about donating old computers. That is when I was asked if I was a
non-profit org or not. This would give them the tax right off they wanted.
So my thinking if to start such an organization for this task. Then whether
I was giving Ubuntu computers of refurbished windows systems it would be
getting the message out that Ubuntu was envolved in helping our local
community. Just a thought. If it is a problem doing this then I will come up
with a different name and still do the same thing. I just saw it as a win -
win situation.
So if this is not an issue, who would I contact about getting permission to
use the Ubuntu name. If it is an issue I would still like to know if i could
name it something else then advertise that is was run by the Alabama LoCo.
I do not want to start yet another debate on whether Non profit orgs are
good or bad. In my case it is good whether Ubuntu's name is used or not. I
was just wondering where we stand on this issue.
