Hey all,

I would like to announce the formation of the Derivative team[1]. Our
mission is to help create and maintain distributions that are derived
from Ubuntu.

One of the main categorizes of derivatives are localizations, created by
you the loco teams.

I would like to offer our help in creating and maintaining your local
derivative.

At this time, our primary goal is establishing consistent policies
between Canonical, Ubuntu, and derivatives[2]. These policies should
eliminate the need for each derivative to individually approach
Canonical and Ubuntu to ensure that they are in compliance with
trademark, source code distribution, and local branding issues. The are
policies are not easy to establish so please be patient.

Our secondary goal is to establish conversations with the various
existing derivatives to determine their specific objectives and
requirements[3]. Once we establish these objectives and requirements,
we will start on helping you meet your objectives.

Please consider adding your derivative and derivative contact
information to the derivatives page[4].

If you would like more information (or would like to help) feel free to
contact me via this list or email.
