Introductions

My apologies for introducing myself so late. I was out of town and
didn't had Internet connectivity (not even cellular network).

My name is Russell, and I'm the team leader of Ubuntu Bangladesh [1].
Our team isn't "official" yet, but we hope to get this status on the
next CC meeting on 17th. The main aim of our LoCo team is to promote
the use of Ubuntu in Bangladesh, which we think is far more important
than localisation efforts. In a country where pirated copies of
Windows can be bought for US$ 0.50 or less, it is very difficult to
convince people even to *try* a non-Microsoft OS.

About myself, I work for an international NGO [2] as an IT Specialist,
and my job is technical supervision and policy formulation for 28
school based telecenters across the country. Right now 10 of the
telecenters are running on Ubuntu, and in the near future we plan to
put Ubuntu on all other centers as well. I've got a good connection
with local NGOs who are working on the same field, and I'm trying to
convert them too. Sometimes I feel like a religious preacher ;)

I first tried Linux in 1997, but using it regularly since 1999. I
co-founded BLUA [3], a local LUG where we mainly work on Linux
advocacy and promotion. I'm involved with several other projects as
well, the latest of which is Creative Commons' Bangladeshi
jurisdiction-specific licensing initiative -- I'm working on as the
Project Lead.

My favourite colour is black and dark blue, and I dislike yellow and white.

Hope to talk to you soon,

Best regards,
Russell
