My experience with other projects has shown that a private or should I
say a "non-public" discussion fora are helpful in the smooth operation
of a project.

I have found that without the ability to communicate in a confidential
manner, private messaging groups proliferate and opportunities are
missed. Whilst the availability of private messaging forums will not
prevent the growth of private mailing groups, it will help to reduce
them.

Private groups would mainly be used for working on topics and projects
not suited to public dissemination until they are ready for announcement
or more general public interaction.

Regards

Craig A.
