Do the keyboard volume keys generate key events?  (you can check with
xev or by using System -> Preferences -> Keyboard shortcuts).  You may
need to set the "volume down" and "volume up" shortcuts.  If this works,
you should probably file a bug to get those shortcuts added; if not,
file a bug about the non-working volume keys.
