Just tried all the Live CDs I have but none works :(
I wrote earlier what comes to the screen:

Busy box 1.1.3 ....  (some text)
/bin/sh: can't access tty; job control turned off

I don't know much about Linux or Ubuntu but I'm happy to get my hands dirty
trying to fix it.
Also happy to contribute to the the body of knowledge. Wiki etc...
