Wifi and last kernel update

Hallo,

I think that since last kernel update the support for wifi on my Acer  
Travelmate 4002 LMi is somehow broken. (I'm not sure if it was the kernel  
update, but update date and noticing trouble are not far from each other.)

On booting the system the wifi status was detected as active like usual  
(status at previous shutdown was active, too). After log in the status in  
panel is declared as active but no connection is possible. Only after  
pressing the wifi-button on the laptop (hardware button) twice for OFF and  
ON wifi works again.

How should I narrow down where to find the problem? Or is it a known bug?  
(I installed laptop-mode-tools some time ago, perhaps there's a  
connection?)

Any hints are welcome.
