Hard drive power saving

Sorry for jumping in-between your thread, but could it be somehow
related to my laptop sometimes turning into a mode of 'clicking'
its harddrive every five seconds or so[1], but not always?

I had similar issues with ThinkPad R31's original Hitachi disk - the
issues disappeared once the disk fried and I replaced it with Fujitsu;
now I have a Hitachi disk again and the clicking (sounds like a head
banging on the case of the disk from the inside on parking...) is back.
