It shouldn't work at the moment. If it's in the templates, that's 
probably an error. The correct way to test power management is:

1) Edit /etc/default/acpi-support
2) Uncomment the ACPI_SLEEP line
3) Reboot
4) Press the sleep button or select suspend from the Gnome logout menu
