recommended way to test power management?

Since Lid-close does nothing(?) by default, what is the recommended way 
to test that entry in the template? Should we just verify that it does 
nothing?

How should we enable sleep-on-lid-close? Hacking the conf files in 
/etc/acpi/events? Install gnome-power-tools and enable it?

Should sleep just be tested by calling /etc/acpi/sleep.sh?
