Still on this subject, I noticed something today. After suspending my
computer for a few hours, I came back and found a black screen. Moving
the mouse or pressing a key didn't do anything. So I tried pressing
CTRL-ALT-F1, which worked. There, I logged in, and typed "killall
xscreensaver". When I switch back to CTRL-ALT-F7, I saw my GNOME
session. But moving the mouse didn't work anymore. I had to press
CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE to reset XOrg and go back to GDM.
