I had a similar problem, and after dig a bit I found[1] that the
evdev module is required but wasn't being automatically loaded,
as it was with Breezy 2.6.12 kernel.

A simple 'echo evdev >> /etc/modules' solved my problem.

This is with the linux-image-2.6.15-3-686 kernel. I'll try the
new -4 as soon as it becomes available at repository... ;-)
