      Well, you might be right but it has always worked for, say, the
      last 12 years...  plus I like to be able to use some of the
      Kubuntu utilities...<br>

      So have you installed Kubuntu straight without the suspend
      problem?   Xfce did introduce light-locker utility which messes
      with hibernation but I've checked on that and locking is turned
      off.<br>

    <p>Kubuntu straight will automatically go into suspend even on the
      desktop. You can fix it by going to System Settings > Power
      Management > Energy Saving > uncheck Suspend Session
      (potentially in multiple places if your machine has a battery).
      Then click Apply.</p>

        <div dir="auto">Might be some weird interaction between KDE
          components and XFCE. Might be worth installing xubuntu (XFCE
          version of Ubuntu) as opposed to wrangling XFCE onto Kubuntu.
