i've only run esx (which just mounts an img or iso and lets you take care of the rest). i presume you're referring to osx or server or whatever they call it now? i think vmware provides their 'tools' on their website and *i think* it's one size fits all here. so, you might try looking for the vmware tools debian package on their web site. also, a quick google gets you this:
Today i installed kubuntu 10.10 maverick to my vmware as guest os. And
then try to install vmware-tools on it. Before that i upgraded all
packages then installed build-essential, gcc and linux-headers. When i
run ./vmware-install.pl i got this error. "The header path is not
valid" I changed path both
"/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.35.22-generic/include" and
"/lib/modules/2.6.35.22-generic/include" and also tried variation of
possibilities. Both message didnt changed. So compiling was
unsuccessfull. Is there any body that show this error before.
