<pre wrap="">Is there someone with experience of getting a fingerprint-reader on a

I have tried searching around internet but not found anything very

Kind regards,

<pre wrap="">Sorry, "O" but I don't think you have really tried.
Have you tried Google with "fingerprint reader + laptop" and even adding
"...+ linux" if you are using, say, Ubuntu"?
There are some 1.13million "hits" to the first search option. Surley one
of them would answer your question, no?

<pre wrap="">And given this is a Kubuntu list - yes I do use Kubuntu 10.04

<pre wrap="">But Kubuntu *IS* Linux isn't it?

<pre wrap="">Ok there might be gazillions of references to fingerprint reader in
Goggle land but to my knowledge there is no support for Fingerprint
reader in KDE4. I used to have it working in 3.x but every new laptop I
buy I go through the paces of trying get them going but to no avail yet.
I have a bug reported at kde.org

<pre wrap="">Yes it seems you are correct.. there is a looong thread on ubuntuforums
I eventually found but frankly it does not seem worth the effort of even
trying to get it working.
Then there is this:
<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://blog.djaara.net/wordpress/kategorie/english/kfingermanager/">http://blog.djaara.net/wordpress/kategorie/english/kfingermanager/</a>
but it has no maintainer so Sergio has refused to incorporate it in KDE

Sorry to read this.
Is this confined to Kubuntu only or to all distros using KDE?

Unfortunately it is all KDE4 derivatives. It seems that the KDE devs
don't see any merit in Fingerprint reader & also see it as a
security risk. The best we could do is see if the Kubuntu devs are
willing to take this project on.<br>
