I already have the necessary codes to play the files, but I want to convert them to mp3 so I can edit them with Adacity. My OS is Kubuntu 8.04, with all updates installed. I've tried OggConvert and it won't convert wma files. So I installed Sound Converter. When I try to start Sound Converter from the multimedia menu, the program fails to start. Starting it from the shell didn't work either, but at least it provides a message: tony@invalid:~$ soundconverter SoundConverter 1.0.1 using Gstreamer version: 0.10.18, Python binding version: 0.10.11 required gstreamer element 'decodebin' not found. A google of the error suggests that I might need to install lame. I would have gone ahead and done that, but I seem to recall a lot of posts saying lame messed up system sound. Adding to my concern is that Adept failed to recognize lame as a dependency, or maybe Adept didn't install lame for a reason.
