I no longer have his reply, however, thanks to Nils Kassube for his
recommendations.<br>
Neither recommendation made any difference.<br>
Looks like, so far, I may have to do the radical thing and <br>
do a complete wipe and install.<br>
This one of those situations that make linux look like Window$.<br>
Shame that no one can get it right. Upgrades are definitely discouraged<br>
in kubuntu.<br>
The watchword is wipe out all your work and programs and start all over
again.<br>
I know that saving the $HOME$ directory should preserve a lot, but it
really <br>
is never the same.<br>
