<div>Yeah lucky for me my netbook only moves between work and home and my mac address is added on both the routers. So im sorted. (for now anyway)<br></div><div><br></div><div>btw, found a nice clear cut tutorial on using the wpa_supplicant to connect using WPA or WPA2 that you might find useful! </div>
<div><br></div><div><a href="http://www.lipasys.de/docu/de/wlanlinux">http://www.lipasys.de/docu/de/wlanlinux</a></div><div><br></div><div>Network managers usually just supply a gui for the iwconfig ifconfig and wpa_supplicant setup and automates the process bringing interfaces online or take them offline, some better than others though. iwconfig is a very useful command for setting wlan settings. its basically ifconfig but only for interfaces with wireless extensions and some added wireless specific settings. You can setup a wireless connection using WEP by only using iwconfig with no wpa_supplicant as far as i know.</div>

</div>But wicd behaves differently from Network Manager, although they use the same<br>
dhclient. Network Manager connects to the unencrypted network (including DHCP)<br>
while wicd failes to connect.<br>

</div>With Network Manager, dhclient does not time out but is killed by Network<br>
Manager after 45 seconds.<br>

</div>I can try this, thanks for the tip. However, this won’t help me when I’m on<br>
the road and want to access some semi-public WLAN. :-(<br>

Best wishes,<br>
