Under the Sound devices configuration, don't choose 'Default Device', don't choose anything with plughw: in the name, choose the one with hw: in the name for all 3 options. And disable 'allow skype to automatically adjust my mixer levels'. If it still doesn't work after that, then you need to experiment with ticking boxes and moving sliders in kmix. Make sure the tick boxes next to 'Capture' and your microphone are both selected, and that the 'Capture' slider is all the way up.
