thanks for your reply, i forgot that vmware ran firefox as root once, which messed up some permission in .mozilla, i chowned back the whole .mozilla directory, and firefox is working as normal again<br><br><div class="gmail_quote">

Did you crash your computer in between that? I had a similar problem when I crashed my computer while messing around with Wine. I lost all saved setting except for bookmarks.<br>  <br>As for fixing it, you may just have to copy and paste the urls you found into your bookmarks and restart. <br>

i was using firefox normally, didn't install any new add-on, change a<br>
settings or anything, clicked close, save & quit, the next time i opened<br>
firefox, i was surprised there was no bookmarks no history, saved<br>
passwords are still there, add-ons are still working, and it's still<br>
using my old profile but without history or bookmarks.<br>
i tried entering "organise bookmarks", and click restore, tried all of<br>
the dates found there, always with the same error, cant process backup file!<br>
the backups exist, and when opened with kwrite, contain a bunch of URLs.<br>
any ideas are welcome<br>
