With a mixed home network - wired and wireless, Linux and Vista, I have had no end of issues. WICD does seem to work better especially after uninstalling other network managers. When I discovered that I could solve most of the issues with a better router, I upgraded my WRT54G by flashing with OpenWrt. It was not only easy to accomplish but solved a major issue of needing to reboot the router up to once per day depending on how many connections are in memory.
I recently bought a Dell 1525 Inspiron laptop and am planning on setting up a wireless
router at home. I would also like to be able to use 'hotspots' and wireless connections at
friend's homes.

I read on this list that WICD is superior to KNetworkManager. I also read an interesting
article about WICD [http://www.linux.com/feature/118224] where one of the comments was
that one should uninstall KNetworkManager as it conflicts with WICD.

Any comments or recommendations/suggestions?

TIA

Blessings,
