Some more information would be good. What computer? What sound card? Which Ubuntu are you using? Only Kaffeine had sound. No Notifications, no flash sound, no BBC Radio 3... I "fixed" it by choosing "OSS" instead of "ALSA" in the audio configs. I tried all the ones in the list: alsa, artsd, esd, jack and oss and only oss worked. I have no idea why. Sometimes needed 3 or 4 tries to get it to work.
