<a href="http://hplip.sourceforge.net/">HPLIP</a> should <a href="http://hplip.sourceforge.net/supported_devices/inkjet.html">support</a> the HP 970. It's should be available as a package (I'm not sure about edgy, but i know it's in feisty installed by default).
