hey stewart, i had a similar issue, not as bad, though...mine was acting a lil on the goofy side as well. i had about 8 or 9 different xorg.conf files. I have an Hanns-G HW192D (1440x900) that i configured with no problems. i even installed ati drivers and compiled them into the kernel. i knew once i did the upgrade that i would need to recompile with the updated kernel again. so with that said, what have you done to this point? what kind of video card are you using and have you updated your drivers and messed with the kernel at all prior to all this? also, before you do anything, be sure to back up xorg.conf so you have the original to fall back on in case you begin to make changes and forget what changes you made. i recommend making two or three changes, save, test it and continue. at least this way you will know what exactly the problem is after you make changes. but let me know what you've done, maybe i can help you. and don't get discouraged...i know it gets frustrating and after a while and you just want to say "F*** IT". believe me, after going thru it a few times you'll be guru! <div> On 2/10/07, J. The first thing I notice is that Knoppix specified values for HorizSync and VertRefresh in Section "Monitor", but Kubuntu doesn't.
