Anyone got any suggestions as to what the problem might be?

Definitely:

If you are referring to a live cd boot:
How much memory?

The live Cd needs aproximately 192mb of memory.
It Installed here OK on a G3 500 mhz Ibook after adding a 256 chip to total 384.

I have had the same thing happen on an i86 p2 with 192 mb ,so that documented number is approximate.

It also works better to go only as far as partitioning the hard drive, then abort the whole process and start over after making a swap partition. the live cd will use an existing swap partition and work better.

Alternatively download the alternative (not live boot) with the traditional installer. I have used these cds on several 128mb machines,

Bryann
