installing linux-image-386, that gives me the newest available kernel

I am using nvidia-glx package for the drivers.

Same experience with linux-restricted-modules-686 on a laptop that I
only see here every couple of weeks. Had to switch to the nv driver.
Found this untriaged bug in launchpad if you want to add your info to
it:
<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/linux-restricted-modules-2.6.15/+bug/49977">https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/linux-restricted-modules-2.6.15/+bug/49977</a>
There was also a problem in that package with starting the wireless due
to a broken or missing link to /sbin/ipw3945, but I could figure out
and fix that issue. I'll see if I can get the details when that laptop
comes back next week.
