Trying to sync user data backup at two laptops.

From the Netherlands, 18 November 2024.

Hello Everybody.

At present, I have the same system running at two laptops with each the
same system - Kubuntu 24.04.1 LTS.

One laptop is a Lenovo Thinkpad XP 230, along with 1 TB SSD and 16 GB
RAM. This laptop I want to keep at home. I have this one about half a year.

A second laptop is a HP EliteBook 2570p, along with 960 GB SSD and 16 GB
RAM. This laptop is intended as a travel laptop. I got this one only
recently.

At the XP 230, I use Timeshift as a system backup tool. The app
«Backintime» I use there for userdata only.  At the EliteBook 2570p, I
want to do the same. For both laptops, I want to use the same folder at
the same external HD for backup and restore.

Practice experience has shown to me that  Timeshift can only be used
within one laptop. However, I do want use Backintime to sync data at the
XP 230 with those at the HP EliteBook 2570p - via an external HD that I
use at both devices. So far, I do not manage to do so. Yesterday, I
tried to «restore» the latest backup from the XP 230 to the HP EliteBook
2570p. I did not manage to do so via Backintime. I ended up in manually
copying user data from the latest Backintime snapshot to the equivalent
folders at the EliteBook - Document files and folders to Documents,
everything in Pictures to Pictures, etc.

This morning, I did some work at the XP 230; I backed up everything to
the external HD. This evening, I tried to sync the data at the EliteBook
with those at the external HD, via Backintime. No success so far. Advise
needed!

Yours.

Bas.
