20.04LTS to 22.04LTS issue

Keep getting a notification that upgrade is available but when attempted 
it returns "Upgrade failed with the following output:" and nothing in 
the box.

One forum suggested cleaning out "etc/apt/*****" which I did:

> |sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list|
> ||
paste in:
> |deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal main universe multiverse 
> restricted deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ focal-security main 
> multiverse universe restricted deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu 
> focal-updates main multiverse universe restricted|
Save and exit.Reload from the repositories and do the eight updates. 
Still unable to upgrade. Suggestions? AMD Quad Phenom 15.5 gig ram |
