Icon prolems

I installed what I thought was an additional set of icons (can't find what I installed now, I did remove it) and it replaced some of my original icons as well as removing others.  I'm not sure whether files were removed or a setting changed.  Icons specified as "relative" (which apparently causes default directories to be searched for a match) in *.desktop files were most affected.  I have managed to locate files for most icons and resolved most issues.  However, the icon for the "Show Desktop" widget has disappeared.
Could someone who hasn't added an icon set post the value of $XDG_DATA_DIRS?  I'm hoping this is what has changed and resetting it will resolve the issue.
Otherwise, can someone tell me how to find the icon for "Show Desktop" and what file to edit to restore it?
