too many issues with the old box not worth the $$ or hassles to untangle
so she is buying a new box will have 500gb hard drive and comes with
windows 10. using old keyboard, mouse, monitor.

so should be a lot easier. she wants to have them function as two
different machnes.. she has to use windows 10 for work so is stuck with
that.

should I partition with partition magic first.
or use the windows 10 which will be installed from the source (with disk)
and use it's partitioner, but will this allow linux to boot or somehow
have to go thru windows.

I have only ever done it with blanking the hard drive, using partition
magic or other to make two partitions (suggestions as to sizes) and then
load windows on one partition and kubuntu on other partition.

thanks
Bob
