Networking issues in focal?

Folks;
unsure where to go with this, I'm experiencing weird networking issues on
my laptop using a current / up-to-date 20.04 beta installation. Started two
or three days ago: No matter whether accessing e-mails via Thunderbird or
trying to open some web page, once in a while (but way too often for my
tastes), connections lag, take too much time to complete, sometimes - in
case of websites - are aborted or reset. Happens with random resources so
most likely is not a server-side issue. Likewise, my tablet and another
laptop (running 18.04) do fine on our network so it doesn't seem to be a
general WiFi issue over here either.
And now I'm a bit lost. How to check what could be causing this? I'm on a
Tuxedo InfinityBook Linux laptop, WiFi chip is
3a:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Wireless 8265 / 8275 (rev 78)
Right now, I'm writing this using a Kubuntu 19.10 live USB stick that
doesn't seem to show these issues either. Any hints on what could be wrong?
Any suggestions what to do next?
Thanks in advance and all the best,
Kristian
