Getting a bluetooth speaker to connect

I solved the same problem - although with sligtly different hardware - 
by installing pavucontrol and fiddling around with the configuration 
options, especially the 'profile' tab. On my system it says: "Digital 
Stereo (HDMI) Output + Analog Stereo Input".
