kde login screen freezes at around 56%

Sorry, I wrote login screen, but was meaning splash screen (I've
autologin enabled).

10 minutes without i/o (disk activity monitored with iostat).

Yes, I've tried also to remove the .kde folder to start out a plain
new session, but nothing changed.
I will search in the logs for any symptom.
