KDE Plasma upgrade

Hi

Happy New Year everybody.

Does anybody know if KDE Plasma will be upgraded to 5.6.x / 5.7.x / 
5.8.x on Kubuntu 16.04 sometime, or will it stay on 5.5.x?

Also has anybody has issues or success when using 
ppa:kubuntu-ppa/backports to upgrade to 5.8.x.
