Have they improved support for higher end video cards?

I have a high end HP/AMD multimedia laptop. I tried 16.04 on it and had 
to blow it. The graphics were HORRIBLE. It's now back to 14.04. The 
Catalyst drivers no longer work after 14.04.

I have also installed higher end radeon video cards in all our desktops. 
If they haven't improved video support it looks like I'll use 14.04 till 
that proverbial hot place freezes over.
