could be. But in any case, Skype has been in the "partners" repo for
ages and should install and pull in all necessary packages. The issue I
used to have was with mic and speaker settings and I sorted that by
installing a widget called Veromix - others have used Pavucontrol (that
is gtk)

MS "killed off" Messenger as a freestanding protocol quite a while ago.
But you can use your messenger/live id to log in to Skype and see both
your MSN contacts as well as any Skype contacts you may have
