As I wrote before: EVERY other Linux flavor did/does allow me to live in 
Japan and still use English as interface language.
Everywhere files are read and Cherrytree works.
ONLY with kubuntu I have this problem.
Set system language to Japanese = everything works.
Set system language to English = Files with non-English characters are 
not recognized and Cherrytree does not work (clearly related)

All efforts to correct the situation so far have been unsuccessful.
Is there really no other way out that a complete new installation?
