I agree with Steve's point of view.

Kubuntu/KDE/Debian  are already a huge community and as Mint was able to
surpass Ubuntu in many métrics(Distrowatch, etc.) and "thanks" to Unity, it
may be the best timing in order to gain more self-governating freedom now
that Plasma 5 has arrived to the final user.
