Audio capturing not working

I don't know what's changed, that's the problem. Anyway, problem solved. 
I installed pavucontrol and now the "built-in Audio Analog Stereo" icon 
is greyed not out.

I seem to remember having a similar problem relating to Kmix many years 
ago.
